A Li'l Update

Max:

Hey everyone!

Work on the next version of Sizzle began in earnest this week, and we’ve been planning some cool new additions. I’ve been pretty busy at my day job so the past few months haven’t been very productive, but we have some stuff on the horizon that I’m excited about.

First off, we’re planning to add mobile compatibility. Although mobile is not our target platform, it should be easy enough to get sizzle to a point where you can play the game on your phone without frustration.

Expect a few new recipes and a less guided experience in the next version as well. I’ve already started drawing new dishes, and we’ve been planning out new gameplay to go along with them.

Hardy:

For the next update my focus is on making gameplay more open, including more valid options when assembling recipes and randomized customer requests that can be filled in a variety of ways. For example, you might be asked for a “meaty” dish, and get different results depending on what you choose to make. We’re still working out the details of this system, and are looking for feedback to help improve the mechanics.

For future updates, I’ve been experimenting with a palette-based sprite system for Godot that is more flexible than the built-in sprite ‘tinting’, and should help make generic intermediate ingredients like chopped potatoes/onions/carrots more identifiable without requiring unique sprites.

We’re also testing out gameplay that will take you outside of the kitchen; more on this in another update.

That's it from us for now. We really appreciate everyone who has played the game so far, and the feedback we've gotten has been really encouraging. We're excited to show y'all what we've been cooking up!

Thank you,

Max & Hardy, from Jet Drift Collective
